# Metal roofing for a roof you will not think about for decades

## Is a metal roof better than shingles?

For some houses, yes. For others, a good shingle roof is the better value. This is how they compare in plain terms, without inventing numbers for your house:

## What is cosmetic metal capping?

Capping wraps exposed wood, such as fascia boards, window frames and trim, in formed metal. It stops the wood from rotting and ends the job of repainting it. We often do it with [eavestroughs, soffit and fascia](https://straightarrow-dev.pages.dev/services/eavestroughs/) work.

## Do you need a permit for a metal roof?

Often, yes, because metal is a different material from the shingles it replaces.
