Roofing in Oakville

Do you need a permit to re-roof in Oakville?
Not for new shingles. The Town of Oakville lists "Re-shingling a roof" among work that needs no building permit, along with "Eavestrough, if the drainage is contained within the property" and "Re-cladding a building with the same material".[1] Oakville is more specific than its neighbours about what does need one. Its list includes:

- "Roof extensions or alterations to increase the height or change the slope"
- "Dormers"
- "Solar panels"
- "Re-cladding a building with new material"[1]
So in Oakville, adding a skylight while the roof is open is a permit job, and we plan the timing so the permit is in hand before the tear-off.
